Biomass systems use wood chips. By burning the chips, the furnace heats water to store heat in buffers, something traditional furnaces cannot do.

 

Once the energy is stored, the heat is redistributed in different ways (example: by radian, by forced air, etc.).

 

As the water energy circulates through these different techniques, it is not exhausted in the first pass and returns to the buffer to be redistributed again. Better energy management results in lower heating costs.
